Local Ski Trails

Most of our local ski trails are groomed by volunteers who work hundreds of hours a winter to keep the trails in good shape for us to ski on. Grooming equipment, fuel, and maintenance costs are high, please support these volunteers by purchasing trail passes to support future ski seasons.

Valhalla Recreation Area (Washburn, WI) Parking fee needed: $5/day, or $20/year.

Mt. Ashwabay (Bayfield, WI) The Ashwabay Outdoor Education Foundation has been working hard to expand their trails for xc skiers and wants to work with us as a club. For most up to date trail conditions, click here.

This year they are working with us 2 ways.

1. We made a donation to AOEF and, in turn, any weekday 4-H CANSKI activity scheduled will be at no charge to 4-H CANSKI members and volunteers.

2. For those that want to use Ashwabay’s trails outside of CANSKI events and practices, a season xc trail pass can be found here. That would be good on the weekends and outside our official 4-H CANSKI practices & functions (which are no charge – donation covered).

Brule River State Forest Trails (Brule,WI)

Ashland Ski Trails (Ashland, WI)

Most trails provide a combination of skating and classical skiing with two trails for classical only. The trails are gently rolling to flat terrain meandering through pine forest comprising several loops totaling 5 kilometers. The trails are maintained by volunteers. ASTA (Ashland Ski Trail Association) receives no funding from city, state, or federal governments. They ask for a nominal $3.00 donation when using the trail to help continue the operation and maintenance of the trails.
Directions: From U.S. Hwy. 2 turn south on Beaser Avenue. Travel approximately 1 mile to Maple Lane. Turn right on Maple Lane and travel west to the third driveway on the right. Turn right into the parking area.
